Jared Martin is an award winning documentary filmmaker and editor whose work centers on shaping complex, real-world stories with clarity, restraint, and emotional precision. He has since led the cutting room on a range of high-profile series, including the Critics Choice-nominated Shiny Happy People (Amazon), UNTOLD created by the Way Brothers (Netflix), Trial by Media (Netflix) produced by George Clooney, and Science Fair: The Series (National Geographic), which earned him an Emmy.
Throughout his career, Jared has been fortunate enough to collaborate with some of the top filmmakers in the genre like David Gelb (Jiro Dreams of Sushi, Chef's Table), Oscar-nominated Garrett Bradley (Time, Naomi Osaka), and Gillian Jacobs (Community, Love). His work has been seen at festivals like SXSW and Tribeca and on major platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Disney+, and National Geographic.
Jared is drawn to stories that resist easy answers and push the boundaries of the genre while honoring the truth of the material. He believes documentary editing is an act of authorship, a process of finding meaning in chaos. Working from hundreds and sometimes thousands of hours of footage, he approaches the edit as a form of discovery, where structure, pacing, and juxtaposition reveal deeper emotional and thematic truths while respecting the lived reality of the subjects on screen.
Jared is an alumnus of the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He is a proud member of the Television Academy and the Alliance of Documentary Editors (ADE).
